The Online Treasure Hunt has now concluded. Thank you for your participation.
We've been noticing use of unfair means by a team: unethically putting up the questions on Yahoo! Answers. We're sorry to penalise them accordingly.
There have been some doubts raised regarding the ranking system. To clarify, ranks are decided by the following parameters (in order of importance)
- The score you have accumulated (higher score is better)
- The level you are on currently (higher level is better)
- The number of wrong guesses you have entered (lower number of guesses is better)
To further clarify, the leaderboard now shows the ranks, scores and the levels.
Rules
- The event starts on 26th July at 0000 hours and finishes on the 28th at 2000 hours. Top 3 schools in terms of scores at the time of conclusion of the event will be awarded points to their overall tally at Gateway 2011.
- Each school that has registered for Gateway 2011 has been sent account details by email. There is no way to participate in the online event without registering for Gateway. Formal invitation for Gateway can be found here.
- The online treasure hunt is made up of levels in a linear format. You will start at level 1 and to access level n, you need to succesful answer level (n - 1)
- Each level you will have the option of looking at a hint. This comes with a penalty to the score.
- Every correct answer to a level without a hint is worth 10 points. If the hint was revealed, the correct answer will give you 5 points. Tie breaks are solved using the number of guesses, that is, team with less number of guesses has the upper hand.
- All answers are in lowercase alphanumeric characters, without spaces or punctuations.
- You are free to search the web, scan our source code, play around with URLs. There are no limitations except for the next rule.
- This is a team event, and as a team, please refrain from collaborating with others. We are watching your every move and any suspicious activity will lead to disqualification.
